You can travel from Sydney to the Blue Mountains and return easily in a a day by train. Catch any NSW Trainlink train from Sydney Central station destined for Katoomba, Mount Victoria or Lithgow. Trains depart once each hour or more frequently in peak times for the two hour trip to Katoomba, two and a half hours to Mount Victoria or three hours to Lithgow. Get off at dowtown Katoomba station - perfectly placed to visit the spectacular scenery, then board your return train later in the afternoon. Trains also pick up at major stations along the way including Strathfield, Parramatta, Blacktown and Penrith.

Day trip by train to the Hawkesbury
You can travel from Sydney to the Hawkesbury River or the Central Coast and return easily in a day by train. Catch any NSW Trainlink train from Sydney Central station destined for Gosford, Wyong, Broadmeadow or Hamilton in the suburbs of Newcastle. Trains depart twice each hour or more frequently in peak times for a one hour trip to the Hawkesbury River or a 90 minute trip to Gosford. Get off at Hawkesbury River station in the town of Brooklyn for Hawkesbury River ferries, or at the downtown Gosford station for the Central Coast's major town. Simply board any southbound train to return to Sydney in the afternoon. Trains also pick up at major stations along the way including Strathfield and Horsnby.

You can travel from Sydney to Wollongong, the Illawarra or the South Coast of NSW and return easily in a day by train. Catch any NSW Trainlink train from Sydney Central station destined for Wollongong, Port Kembla or Kiama. Trains depart once or twice each hour for a 90 minute trip to Wollongong or a little over 2 hours to Kiama. You can travel further south beyond Kiama to Bomaderry (Nowra), but you must change trains at Kiama to a connecting shuttle train between Kiama and Bomaderry.

Day trip by train to Southern Highlands
You can travel from Sydney to the Southern Highlands towns of Picton, Mittagong, Bowral and Moss Vale and return easily by train. Simply catch a Sydney Trains service from Sydney Central or any downtown station for the 1 hour journey to Campbelltown, then change to a connecting NSW Trainlink train from Campbelltown for the picturesque 80 minute journey to Moss Vale stopping at Picton, Mittagong, Bowral and other towns along the way. Trains depart approximately once each hour.
